After their movie and television show stint, The Beatles took a trip to India, where wonderfully creative music was born. A new album was started in 1968 when The Beatles returned home. The album had an odd style—everybody composed their own songs, but worked together as a group. The song "The Inner Light," for example, uses instruments that The Beatles wouldn't have used in a regular song.
One of The Beatles' most popular songs, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was written, and people often thought that the drug LSD had been the "leader" of the song. It was actually inspired by a drawing John's son Julian created, but later spiced up to be a phychedelic song.

The "Get Back Project"
In the final years, The Beatles had grown apart. In an effort to try to get back together, they developed a project called "The Get Back Project." The title of the project says it all. They wanted to get back together, because they started to fall apart and had lots of arguments with each other.
They played on the rooftop of Apple Corps., their record company, and passers-by got to see them play on top of their building. For free! This wasn't a full blown concert, but rather a practice session. The original plan was to start the Get Back Project off with playing their new song , "Get Back," and ending with it as well. In between, they played some of their new songs that they made. However, they were forced off almost immediately by the police. Their attempt at continuing the band was unsuccessful, as they broke up shortly after.
