Paul McCartney was born on June 18, 1942 in England. His mother was a midwife and his father was a cotton salesman. Paul had one brother, Michael. Paul went to school at the Liverpool Institute. He didn't like school, but he didn't dislike it either, he just didn't like being told what to do.
Paul's dad was a musician. He played the trumpet and piano. Paul's Uncle Jack played the trombone. Paul was determined and learned to play the piano by ear, and never did learn to read music. Paul said, "I have a vague suspicion, now, that it would change how I'd do things."
Paul's father bought him a trumpet as a birthday gift. Paul knew how to play, but he couldn't sing while playing the trumpet, so he swapped it for a Zenith acoustic guitar, which he still has today. He was left handed, and had to play upside down. Paul wrote his first song at age fourteen, called "I Lost My Little Girl".
After The Beatles, Paul continues to play music, and tour. At age 69, he's going strong with his "On the Run Tour." (I saw him in Chicago!)
